Notification on process times for funding applications

Due to unexpected demands within the Service, there is a change to the processing period for funding applications put forward to the EBI Service, these are detailed below;

1) EBI Prior Approval Funding Applications

PA funding applications will have a process period of up to 15 working days from the date the correct prior approval application form and supporting evidence is received to NHS Somerset EBI Service email inbox

2) EBI Generic Funding Applications

EBI Generic applications will have a process period of up to 8 weeks from the date the correct generic application form and supporting evidence is received to NHS Somerset EBI Service email inbox

3) ERS Prior Approval Funding Applications

ERS prior approval funding applications will have a process period of upto 15 working days from the date the correct ERS prior approval application form and supporting evidenced is received through ERS to the EBI Service

There are a number of treatments and surgical procedures that are not funded routinely commissioned by us.
There are three pathways for treatments and surgical procedures that are not routinely funded.

Prior Approval (PA) pathway

A clinician, GP or clinical consultant, applies for funding to the Evidence Based Interventions Service. Funding will be approved if the patient named on the funding application meets the published criteria in the relevant INNF Policy.

Evidence based interventions (EBI) pathway

A clinician, GP or clinical consultant, applies for funding to the Evidence Based Interventions Service. We will review and consider against ‘Clinical Exceptionality’ for the patient named on the funding application.

Clinical exceptionality

Where a patient’s individual clinical circumstances are clearly different from other patients with a similar condition or diagnosis.  To see the full NHS description of clinical exceptionality
