NHS 75th Birthday Engagement 2023

For this year’s NHS 75th birthday, the Engagement Team and Healthwatch Somerset travelled across the county, gathering NHS stories from the people of Somerset.

The Engagement Team visited Somerset Independent Markets in Frome, Taunton, Bridgwater and at Haynes Motor Museum, engaging with a wide range of people who were keen to share their views, experiences and stories of NHS care either for themselves or for their loved ones.

There were stories about both positive and negative experiences, but it was great to hear so much positive feeling about the existence of a national health service and just how many people remain grateful to the individuals who looked after them.

So many stories highlighted the huge amount of compassion and caring, shown in so many different ways, by the professionals they met both within the NHS and also by those in roles outside the NHS, that also supported their recovery.

All feedback gathered at the NHS 75 events was passed to the NHS Somerset Communications Team, to create individual stories on the Our Somerset website and social media.

If any feedback was deemed a PALS enquiry, members of the Engagement Team took details and followed this up, often calling people back and helping to resolve their issues or concerns.

These community conversations and insight from local people is absolutely essential in building a true understanding of how we can work with people & communities to best shape health and social care.
