Fit for the Future:
10 Year Health Plan
Updates and information for the recently announced 10 Year Plan.
Introduction
The Government's 10 Year Health Plan for England has been launched, setting out a bold, ambitious and necessary new course for the NHS.
The plan fundamentally reinvents our approach to healthcare so that we can guarantee the NHS will be there for all who need it for generations to come.
It has been shaped by the experiences and expectations of members of the public, patients, our partners and the health and care workforce across the country, reflecting the changes that people wanted to see.
Through the 'three shifts' – from hospital to community, from analogue to digital, and from treatment to prevention – we will personalise care, give more power to patients, and ensure that the best of the NHS is available to all. You can read the plan on the Government's website.

The numbers speak for themselves – more than 4,500 people took part, 789 conversations were held, 130 online survey responses were received and 49 engagement events were attended – and all the space of a few months.
Public feedback from the engagement
Services closer to home would help with the problem of travelling long distances for treatment
There needs to be clearer communication and more coordination between services
A more holistic approach focusing on providing support while people wait for
is needed.
"Pensioners are waiting very long times for knee operations and cataract operations"
People feel like they are getting passed back and forth between the GP, school and other services
It is frustrating when you have to repeat your medical information to different
healthcare providers.

The three key shifts at the heart of the new 10 Year Health Plan can already be seen in action in Somerset.
The plan aims to ‘take the best of the NHS to the rest of the NHS’ so realising the three shifts will be about expanding successful neighbourhood working and embedding it in communities across the county.
