Grab a jab at Taunton Pride, this Saturday, 17 July

People aged 18 and over are invited to come and ‘grab a jab’ this weekend during Taunton’s first ever Pride festival day. A range of events and activities are available across Taunton; offering something for everyone – including getting your COVID jab!

The local NHS is holding a pop-up walk-in vaccination clinic in Taunton town centre on Saturday 17 July, between 1pm and 5pm at the Taunton Tourist Information Centre.

Anyone aged 18 and over is invited to drop in for either their first COVID dose or their second, as long as it is 8 weeks after their first dose – there’s no need to book.

Dr Tim Norbury from Taunton Vale Healthcare who will be running the clinic on Saturday, said: “We’ve done really well in Somerset, with high numbers of people taking the opportunity to get their COVID jab so far, but we want to ensure as many people as possible take up the offer of a jab.

“We want to make it as easy as possible for local people to get their jab, so we’re bringing vaccinations to our local community on Saturday, during the Pride event.   If you are shopping, or passing by and have not yet had your first jab, or are due your second after eight weeks or more, please come and see us. You can even bring your friends and family if you are nervous, or don’t want to come on your own – everyone is welcome and we have plenty of Pfizer vaccine available.”

Gary Risdale, Programme Manager for the Somerset COVID-19 Vaccination Programme, said: “Getting both vaccinations is the best way of protecting yourself from serious illness from COVID-19 and it also helps reduce the risk of you spreading the virus that causes COVID-19. In Somerset, teams of GPs, vaccinators and volunteers are working very hard to make sure that there are lots of opportunities to access the vaccination programme – so please help us by having both jabs.”

There are a broad range of vaccination sites in Somerset on offer through the National Booking Service including; large vaccination sites, GP-led community sites and an increasing number of new pharmacy-led sites.  People can book both first and second doses in advance by calling 119 or visiting: nhs.uk/covid-vaccination. In addition there are a wide range of vaccination sites across the county that are holding walk-in clinics, in addition to pre-booked appointments.

There are a number of other walk-ins scheduled this week . More times and locations will be added next week.
