NHS Somerset statement on Minehead Medical Centre

Statement from NHS Somerset

23rd January, 11.30

Following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission, the independent regulator of health and social care in England, today a notice of suspension has been issued to Minehead Medical Centre.

This means Minehead Medical Centre will temporarily close to new appointments from midday on Tuesday 23 January 2024.

NHS Somerset is working at pace to make sure you can continue to access the care you need at the practice. We are committed to ensuring that patients in Somerset have access to safe and effective GP services and will continue to take action to ensure patients at Minehead Medical Centre receive the right care.

Patients do not need to do anything and do not need to re-register with another GP surgery.

In the short term, patients registered at Minehead Medical Centre with an urgent medical need should contact 111, or, in an emergency, call 999, – visit our NHS Somerset site on using the right NHS service. If you require a limited, emergency supply of a medicine you’ve completely run out of, please use NHS 111 online, call NHS 111 or speak to your community pharmacist. This must be a medicine you are prescribed regularly, through a repeat prescription.

If you have a pre-booked appointment at the practice needing to be re-arranged, you will be contacted. Please do not contact the practice to cancel or change appointments. All patients will be receiving further communication soon. NHS Somerset will provide regular updates on our website.

If you have any questions, please do not contact the practice directly – this will enable them to focus on the smooth transition of your care. Instead, NHS Somerset has set up a dedicated helpline on 0300 303 6409 (open 8.30am-5pm).
