Reminder: Order prescriptions ahead of the bank holiday

NHS Somerset is reminding people to plan ahead and make sure they have ordered their repeat prescriptions in time, ahead of this weekend’s May Bank Holiday.

The easiest and quickest way to order your repeat medicine is via the NHS App or GP Online Services which you can do from the comfort of your own home.

If you or your family do become unwell over the bank holiday it is important to remember that there are services ready to support you, depending on your healthcare need.

Community pharmacists are qualified health professionals who can offer expert advice on many minor ailments and conditions. As well as being able to support people with a range of common problems such as coughs, colds, aches and pains, people can also get treatment for seven common conditions directly from their local pharmacy. You can find out which pharmacies are open during the bank holiday on the NHS website.

If you are a parent and your child is unwell, check out Somerset’s HANDi App – full of advice to help with everything from high temperatures to vomiting and diarrhea. You can also find more information on our parent zone page.

For urgent health concerns, you can get medical advice 24/7 by calling NHS 111 or using the 111 online service. They have trained professionals who can direct you to the appropriate care for your needs. And for those needing emergency or urgent dental care, you can also contact NHS 111 who will be able to direct you to your nearest dentist that can offer an urgent NHS appointment. You can find more information on what to do on the NHS website.

For urgent non-life-threatening conditions and injuries such as sprains, fractures and burns please consider visiting one of the local Urgent Treatment Centres (UTC) or Minor Injuries Unit (MIU). For the latest information on opening hours and services, visit the UTC/MIU pages.
