Patient Safety - systems

Patient safety systems are a fundamental foundation of the NHS Patient Safety Strategy which acknowledges the complex environment the healthcare system is. Organisations have their own remits and responsibilities for improving patient safety, but bringing organisations together to address complex patient safety issues that cut across multiple care settings and that require cross-organisational input is essential, as is the sharing of learning and best practice.

Systems-based patient safety approaches and principles can help us identify strategies for improvement as patients flow through the system and we will focus on learning from where things go well, as well as the challenges.

As an ICB we will have a role in bringing system partners together to share valuable learning and best practice in order to improve the quality and safety of our services.
